STORY/GAMEPLAY:Loosely following the storyline of the film, you control the world famous wrestling Superstar Hulk Hogan (stars as Shep Ramsey) in his epic battle against the forces of evil General Suitor. Based on the plot, Shep while flying into space and battling against the forces of the evil General who seized Earth, crash-land on Earth. The game actual starts with a horizontal-scrolling shoot-em-up level, where you need to take out incoming spaceships, and several types of automated ground defenses. Fortunately, power-ups to increase lethality can be found too.
On Earth (where you get into the main game things), he must search for a new source of power now, to fuel his ship before he can leave Earth and rejoin the space battle. But this is not easy, as the evil General has sent a number of bounty hunters to hunt Shep down. On Earth, you travel through seven specific areas looking for fuel, power crystals and ship parts, but battling with several nasties and traps along the way. There are tons of collectible items, and you'll need to make good use of the moving platforms and door keys if you want to reach the end.
To finish the job, Shep needs to place seven bombs in specific places around the innards of the General's spaceship already landed on Earth), and then get the hell out!
Suburban Commando is not bad. Actually is pretty decent and offers acceptable visuals and (especially) sound, though is lacking in most departments, and mostly in innovation (don't get excited that it offers a multi-style gameplay).
GRAPHICS/SOUND:The graphics are quite nice, with a good cartoony feel. The platform and flying levels aren't what you'd call state-of-the-art, however they are competent enough and quite pretty, albeit with a washed-out kind of color palette, while too much color dithering at the backdrops for a "richer" color palette makes it look a bit outdated (the actual colors are 32 colors on screen). There are two planes of parallax scrolling, while sprites look cute and move fast on screen.
Sound on the other hand is an ace. The music is, without a doubt, the most impressive part of the game, offers nicely composed tunes that are well matched to the game's atmosphere. Sound effects are again the standard boom type of sampled explosive noises.
